Liar Liar

Wikipedia defines lie as “an untruthful statement made to someone else with the intention to deceive.” To lie is to say something one believes to be false with the intention that it be taken for the truth by someone else. Small, harmless white lies we all usually have to tell. But I am amazed how much a person can lie, can he/she fake his entire life, looking into your eyes, bluntly, and you don’t see even a slightest shame in their eyes. A slightest doubt that they might be lying..

I have a travel companion. Usually, a lot of sharing is done when you travel together regulary. So when she started to tell me about her life, I thought, yaar she has a very good life, masters in engg., a good husband (with a VERY high pay), two beautiful children, her own well paid job..her life was a like a dream many dream about. Just one glitch, she had to live away from her husband, but they frequently visited one another. So it was a picture perfect story. And looking at her, and the way she used to tell all these things in your eyes with utmost confidence, that you wouldn’t even think that she is lying. But as time went by her stories became very exaggerated. Then you start doubting, is this all true. Can this fairy tale be really real?? And then I found from her friend, that she actually isn’t married only!!!

I haven’t confronted about this to her. But as of now I m not really taking into consideration of whats true and what false. If she wants to live in a life of fantasy, I cant deny her that. But what amazes me is, this lying thing. If I say a lie, people will immediately catch me. I agree, I m not that good liar. But for faking your entire life, you need to have a dam good confidence. For me, the guilt of lying is a question, my conscience would not allow me to fake my life, and that also for no good reason. God only know, why do people do such things..
